Mrs. Witt, 6th Science teacher, presents at state conference. |
Mrs. Susan Witt with the assistance of three MMS seventh graders presented at the Conference for the Advancement of Science Teachers. Mrs. Witt's presentation informed teachers how to implement the Cool School Challenge program. During the 2010-2011 school year, Mrs. Witt's sixth grade science classes implemented this program for Mineola Middle School. Through this program students learn methods for monitoring and conserving energy and then used this knowledge to help staff members conserve energy. Students surveyed teachers regarding their use of energy habits and then implemented a plan for the teachers on how they could help save energy. Some of the methods used included turning off lights, switching off computers when not being used, and suggesting ways to lower fuel bills. Their efforts were successful in saving the school both money and energy!
